Light Shows : What is this name?

Five years ago, I started having a website for purely practical reasons, I wanted a space to share some teaching material with my students. I didn’t want to make a boring html page and had next to no skills to make an interesting html page, so I relied on squarespace to give me a nice template and start quickly. Additional bonus that they had cheap pricing for anyone with a university handle made it more attractive. That website then became a space for me to put my research and work stuff mostly for those who wondered in.

January 2024, a month before I am about to start my journey as a full time scientist, with a commitment to write more, I wanted a more “blog” friendly website, so here it is!

Back to, why the name “light shows”? I amused myself with a small word play. For many years, I worked on a physics analysis where I use photons as a probe to some of the biases that were intrinsic in my specific research topic. So on one hand, “light shows” is a way to say “hey look, I used photons to show you something interesting”. But the other reason is, I spent many years from high school to a bit after my undergraduate studies, writing, acting and directing theatrical productions. When I moved to New York for graduate school, I desperately wanted to continue this part of my life, but physics and my obsession to be good at various aspects of experimental physics got in the way. So I became just an audience, but every once in a while dreaming about being on stage. “Light shows” is a nod to this brief part of my life when the theatre light was on me or my words!

Welcome to the show (blog) where I intend on writing about physics, teaching, random life updates and random musings!
